SCA to Collaborate with Hatch Street Open Studios

SOUTH COAST ARTISTS TO PRESENT FREE DEMONSTRATIONS

A series of fascinating and fun art demonstrations will take place on Sunday, November 19th, 2023, as part of South Coast Artists ongoing educational mission. The demonstrations, which are free and open to the public, will take place on the second floor of Hatch Street Studios, located at 88 Hatch Street, New Bedford, MA.

These demonstrations are part of a South Coast Artists collaborations with the Hatch Street Fall Open Studios event, which takes place throughout the buildings that weekend. SCA DEMONSTRATION SCHEDULE:

Sunday, November 19th, 2023

11:00am - 1:00pm

Kitt Shaffer will demonstrate the process of white line printing. This is a variation on a woodcut with many colors printed from a single carving and the ability to modify the print as much as you like before it is finished. The process is simple and inexpensive.

12:00pm - 2:00pm

Robyn Borges of Bippity Bop Design, creates unique Botanically Printed silk scarves & fabrics. No dyes or paints are used in her process, only local foraged leaves & blossoms. The artist will demonstrate how she uses heat & steam to create her a one of a kind wearable art pieces.

1:00pm - 3:00pm

Kat Knutsen will demonstrate drawing techniques that create a multi-figure design using soft- vine charcoal on newsprint.

2:00pm - 4:00pm

Robin Nunes will demonstrate her specialty of oil painting with a palette knife. Robin is a professional whose art is a powerful interpretation of images she has captured from Key West to the quintessential coast of Padanaram. She has studied with and been influenced by artist Michele Byrnes.

3:00pm - 5:00pm

Amy Thurber of Doves Foot Pottery will demonstrate the process of transforming leaves into functional pottery, using high-fired stone- ware clay and real leaves. Using under-glazes she will bring the leaf impressions to life using watercolor techniques. The results are organic and whimsical.
