MY PAINTINGS AND PRINTS ARE ABSTRACT SOMETIMES WITH RECOGNIZABLE IMAGERY.
Wendy Weldon
After moving to Dartmouth three years ago, some of my focus has been the Apponagansett Quaker Meeting House in Russells Mills. I have loved painting images of barns for years and still continue to explore them. The images are housed in an abstract composition with an emphasis on color. I apply layers of paint which provide depth. I add more paint, then sand specific areas, repeating this process many times. Sanding reveals the layers of color underneath which gives the work transparency. I don't want my paintings and monotypes to tell the whole story. Some of my work remains totally abstract. Monotype printing is often a jumping off place for my acrylic paintings and mixed media work. I hope my art work provides mystery for the viewers so that they find something new in the work each time they see it.
