Nancy R. M. Whitin

Nancy R. M. Whitin, former publishing V Pres. and board member of the Society of American Historians, has studied at the Silvermine Guild, RISD, and extensively with private instructors. She has been juried in as a member of the prestigious Pastel Society of America in NYC and is a Member of Excellence with the Southeastern Pastel Society. Both her rabbit painting”Go Ask Alice” and her donkey painting “Not So Blue” were awarded Honorable Mentions in Pastel Journal’s Annual International Pastel 100 Competition, and she has been a finalist in the Artist’s Magazine Annual International Excellence Competition three times. Nancy was honored to be one of the fifteen artists invited to participate in the invitational exhibit Our Shared Planet, examining animals as the inspiration for art, at the Parsons Gallery, at which time her artwork was featured in the Boston Globe’s Art Section. Her donkeys have found homes in 30 states.

Nancy’s portraits of animals are of real individuals. Their poses and expressions are not exaggerated. She has thousands of her animal photos on her computer and her challenge becomes to capture their emotions, tell their stories, and portray their individual personalities.

An avid sailor and rower, she is often compelled to paint our beautiful local marshes and beaches.
