Jill Law’s work is in constant motion, evolving as life’s journey twists, turns, and continues to inspire. Through her art, she expresses transient moments abstracted, distilled, and translated for the viewer’s reflection, offering an alternative perspective often not considered by the mainstream. Balanced on the cusp of figural representation and gestural abstraction, Jill offers an intuitive visual connection. Multidisciplinary practices of painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking and photography allow exploration, scrutiny, and immersion into the immediacy of thought, place, and awareness. Her work evokes an emotional response of inquisitiveness and realization. Using texture, layers, color, and composition she communicates with a broad range of materials, pausing to add thoughtful details. Working on large-scale surfaces is both liberating, challenging and rewarding. Moving mediums in large areas with brushes, palette knives, and unconventional tools she builds the architecture of the work. Adding and subtracting layers creates texture as the story reveals itself. As work develops, invention and intuition take hold. With a broad knowledge of materials, she moves seamlessly back and forth between the physical and the methodical of the creative process. Jill Law holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Major in Painting with a Minor is Sculpture from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and is currently pursuing her Master of Arts in Sculpture at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. As a South Coast Artists member of thirteen years, she has served as Board Chair, President, and Tour Chair. She is a founding member of the Dartmouth Cultural Center, a past president, and the Gallery Director. Jill is an Elected Signature Member of the National Association of Women Artists and Vice President of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Painting Club. Her award-winning artwork is shown nationally in galleries, universities, and museums.
