March Member’s Gathering

Mark your calendars for TOMORROW, Thursday, March 21, at 6:30 p.m., for the next SCA members’ gathering. Please join us at the Macomber House located at 938 Main Road Westport, MA 02790. We will begin the evening with our member-favorite potluck style dinner, followed by the program starting at 7:00 p.m.

It will be a great chance to catch up with fellow artists and to learn what’s in store for SCA in the year ahead. The highlight will be a talk by sculptor and SCA member, Cecilia DelGaudio.

Cecilia DelGaudio began carving stone at the age of 21 in a summer course offered at Rhode Island School of Design. She has an undergraduate degree in Art Therapy, and after teaching art for four years in Catholic schools, she obtained a Master of Science in Art Education from Mass College of Art.

After three years in a public high school art department, she spent 19 years at Worcester Art Museum primarily teaching adults how to carve. A rare disease forced her to leave WAM, but she continued to teach from her home studio in Hopkinton, MA until she moved to Westport in 2017.

There, her focus has primarily been on the study of the figure and mastering of the direct-carving method. She has also explored the mold-making process to make cold casts of originals carved in stone, wood, or clay, which are more affordable as both unlimited and limited-edition pieces.

Cecilia is currently an exhibiting member of the Providence Art Club, South Coast Artists, and a member of the National Sculpture Society. Her vast knowledge of the materials and methods she uses, combined with years of being a passionate educator are sure to make for a memorable evening.
