SCA In the Community: Artist Demonstrations at the Harvest Market

This weekend, a group of SCA Member Artists will be demonstrating at the Tiverton Farmer’s Market Harvest Market, October 16th from 12:00-4:00 p.m. As part of SCA’s educational mission, we are excited to share the processes of our artists during this event. In its second year, the Harvest Market showcases the work of many local artists and farmers in our community. With over 100 vendors, music, food trucks, guided nature walks, and ‘tent talks’ the event has something for everyone. The event is free to attend, however parking is $5/car. Thanks to Bike Newport, a bike racks will be available for free.

12:00-1:00 Stephanie Stroud- Wool Felting

12:00-1:00 p.m.

Stephanie Stroud will demonstrate how she paints with wool in a process called felting. She will show how she delicately and deliberately layers fluffy bits of colored wool to create a scene. The results are soft impressionistic landscapes that have a unique texture and always invite a second look.

12:30-1:30 p.m.

Barbara Healy will be painting sunflowers in oils.

1:00-2:00 p.m.

Cecilia DelGaudio will be demonstrating how to model the human face. Focus will be on proportions and proper anatomical features with decorative clay impressions of leaves that creates a mask like impression. Shown here is an image of "Fall Face" with styrofoam armature done in DAS clay.

1:30-2:30 p.m.

Lindsey Epstein will demonstrate how she creates her horse sculptures. Made from paper clay, she will demonstrate how these horses come to life.

2:00-3:00 p.m.

Kitt Shaffer will demonstrate white line printing. This is a simple printing technique developed in the early part of the last century in Provincetown, so they are sometimes called 'Provincetown prints'. White line prints are related to wood block printing, but instead of making a different block for each color, only one block is carved, and all of the colors are applied to different sections of the block, which leaves white lines around the edges. This method has several advantages, including use of simple and inexpensive supplies, and the ability to adjust the print until it is how you want it by applying more or different color and repeating the process.

3:00-4:00 p.m.

Pamela Lowell will be demonstrating her watercolor technique for painting Ospreys, their nests and platforms. She uses a combination of masking, salt, and mixed media to capture the personalities of these large birds of prey and their habitats.
