We’re well into meteorological spring. Snow is melting at a fast pace, as of this writing🤞! SCA events and activities are also coming up at a fast pace. We’ll be talking about all that at our next Members’ Gathering on March 19th. That’s one day before the beginning of “real” astronomical spring. (For us nerds out there.)

To rev our creative motors back up, we’ve invited Kevin Gilmore to share his thoughts and work. Kevin was last year’s juror in our Tour Art Contest and wrote so eloquently about his choices.

When: Thursday, March 19th
Where: Macomber House, 930 Main Road, Westport, MA
Potluck starts at 6:00 p.m.
Program begins at 7:00 p.m.

Kevin is an educator, an interdisciplinary artist working as a painter and experimental sound composer, using soundscapes from field recordings, contact microphones, digital instruments and analogue synthesizers. His teaching philosophy has developed through an intuitive process, teaching undergraduate art classes at RISD, URI, and Anna Maria College, as well as leading workshops.

His work represents moments of contemplation. Small meditations, like visual Haiku. The abstract multi media collages are at once word poems, melodies of color, and visual interpretations of three-dimensional sound objects.

Kevin would much rather talk with rather than at our audience, hoping the conversation will include questions and thoughts about your own work. Maybe you’re thinking of working in another medium or size, or have questions about subject matter, what materials are best to convey what you want say, who your audience is…etc. So, questions and comments are highly encouraged and welcomed during the conversation and sharing of ideas.

We understand that cases of the flu are occurring in our area- if you are feeling sick, or that you might be sick, please stay home. We are also asking that you be considerate of the type of food brought for the pot-luck, and ask that you avoid bringing dip types of food with you. Please remember to take home your leftovers at the end of the evening as well!

Call for Entry:
2026 Members’ Invitational Exhibition

General Exhibition Information:

This is a non-juried, non-themed members’ exhibition with awards. Up to three artworks may be submitted, however the total wall space used by any artist cannot exceed 40” x 40”, including frames. All 2D work must be securely wired, no sawtooth hangers or clips will be accepted. Gallery wrapped canvases are acceptable, but staples must not be visible. 3D work must fit into a 36”L x 36”W x 96”H space.

ENTRY FEE & PROCEDURE: Enter online March 1 – 21, at Call for Entries via SCA website. There is an entry fee due at the time of registration. $15 for the first entry, $10 for each additional entry (up to 3 pieces). Images of your entries must be submitted at the time of registration. No substitutions or changes in information from your online registration will be accepted when you bring your work in.

AWARDS: An independent juror will select outstanding works for awards, including cash awards! $300 First Place, $200 Second Place, $100 Honorable Mention.

ABOUT THE JUROR: Catherine Carter is an abstract artist inspired by the rhythmic gestures of calligraphy and the complex patterns in Nature. Catherine has exhibited her paintings, prints and collages at multiple venues, including the Chrysler Museum of Art and the U.S. Embassies in Oman and Cameroon. Her shows have been reviewed in the Boston Globe, the Boston Herald, the Providence Journal, and Art New England.

Her artworks are held in a number of public, corporate, hospitality, and private collections, including the Boston Public Library, and the Four Seasons Hotel in Boston. She is the recipient of artist grants from the St. Botolph Club Foundation, the Mass. Cultural Council, and New Bedford Creative.
