February Members’ Gathering

Please join us in person tonight for our first Members’ Gathering of the year! Adrian Tió will be our featured speaker. He is a printmaker and the former Dean of UMass CVPA. He will talk about his work and will bring a mini-press and do a fun demonstration of his work.

Adrian says: “Seeing is believing. What better way to share my studio process than by displaying samples of recent artwork along with the original woodcuts and tools followed by a hands-on demonstration of the relief printing process. SCA members will be invited to try their hand at printing a prepared ‘mini’ print as a keepsake of the evening’s presentation.”

The visual arts have long been a significant part of Latino culture, providing a visible means of expressing the legacy of Spanish, Taino and African forebears. Adrian’s studio time has been spent in developing a bi-visual means of communicating his Latino heritage in a concerted effort to expand and enrich his mainstream American identity. His works are hybrids that navigate between these two worlds.

Adrian Tió was born 1951 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to parents who had emigrated from the Caribbean Island of Puerto Rico. Tió received his fine arts training from Temple University (B.A. 1974), the University of Cincinnati (M.F.A. 1979), and studied at the Tyler School of Art in Rome, Italy (1975-76). The artist has exhibited nationally as well as regionally in drawing, painting, and printmaking for over 40 years, and has conducted workshops on mural painting, papermaking, and the book arts.

Registration is similar to past years, but we have made a few changes:

Increased square brochure image size: 300 dpi, minimum of 2500 x 2500 px.
Addition of a required second advertising image any size between 1-3 MB, minimum 300 dpi.
App information/images (optional submissions) must be submitted at the time of registration.
Increased Tour fee: due to the rising costs of printing and advertising, the Tour fee for 2023 has increased to $300/artist.
Website URL: when submitting a link to a website, you must enter a URL or hyperlink. Note: A URL (Uniform Resource Locator) usually starts with either an http:// or https://. URLs are the specific address to a designated webpage.
