A New Year’s Message

Dear Subscriber First Name,

Happy New Year!

What a year we’ve had. 2025 saw record membership with 220 members, 38 of them new! How did that happen? Word about us is getting out exponentially. We must be doing something right. Maybe it’s what we have to offer, and in turn, what our diverse members offer to us. So if joining SCA was on your New Year’s resolutions list, congratulations, you’re a success!

Whether this is your first time joining, or you’re a seasoned Open Studio Tour pro, welcome, we are glad you’re here as an important member of our community. What’s great about this group is that you can participate as little or as much as you’d like. I do recommend that you take full advantage of what we offer and really check out our website. You’ll find info on fellow artists, events we have scheduled (an ongoing process), a sign up site for volunteer opportunities, info on our Youth Grant program, and more.

We have already secured a speaker for our third Annual Distinguished Speaker Series coming this fall. (Mum’s the word for now.) We’ll be announcing that info at one of our upcoming members’ gatherings. For you newbies, we created this open to the public event to bring in more well-known experts in their field related to the arts. Victoria Wyeth, Andrew Wyeth’s only grandchild, was our inaugural speaker. Cody Hartley, long time director of the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, New Mexico, was our second speaker. Let’s just say this year’s speaker will steal your attention.

Between now and then, we’ll have mostly monthly potluck members’ gatherings with guest speakers. These fall on the third Thursdays of the month, starting at 6:00 for the potluck/socializing portion followed by the meeting and guest speaker at 7:00 These speakers may be SCA members or artists or someone relevant to the arts from our greater area. Please make sure SCA and our email are in your contact list and not sent to your spam and junk folders.

Our first members’ gathering will be on Zoom on January 15th for those of you serious about being on the Open Studio Tour this summer. We’ll go over what’s involved with preparing and signing up for the Tour. As always, there will be an art contest exclusively for those on the Tour, with a juror and prizes. February’s in-person gathering will be at the Little Compton Community Center. In March, we’ll meet at the Macomber House in Westport. Future dates and locations are in the works! May will find us at Gallery X in New Bedford for our 8th annual SCA Members’ Invitational with a juror and prizes. Check out our calendar below for upcoming events.

As always, we welcome suggestions for speakers, jurors, gathering locations, exhibit locations, instructional events, or any other bright ideas.

Thank you for being an important member in our cherished and talented group. And a special thank you to all in the background running SCA, a group of unstoppable volunteers creating their own art while being selflessly dedicated to SCA’s cause. If you feel like you’re missing out on something and want to be more involved in this community, you can contact our Volunteer Chair, Lisa Busnengo, to find ways to volunteer.
