Happy New Year to you and every SCA member!
Today is the first day of 2023—the year when we celebrate the 20th anniversary of South Coast Artists! How wonderful that we can look to the future of SCA with excitement! Early Bird Registration for the 20th Annual Open Studio Tours will begin February 1. Registration for the Annual Contest will begin on March 1. Registration for the Members’ Invitational Exhibition will begin on April 1. The months ahead will include member gatherings, educational programs, and a very special reception on Gallery Night in Providence. Of course, only members are eligible participate in these and other SCA activities. This milestone year is full of activities you won’t want to miss! And so, along with sending you warm wishes for a very happy new year ahead, I want to remind you that all SCA memberships expired on December 31, 2022. So please be sure to renew your membership online as soon as possible and gain access to the Members Only section on our website. (You will be sent the new password once you renew your membership.) We are proud that after two decades at $35, membership dues have only been increased by $5. That slight increase was necessitated, of course, by inflation and the dramatically increased costs of printing and advertising. Fortunately, the increase in expenses have been mitigated somewhat by the increases in the number of participating SCA members, now numbering over 190 creative friends. SCA is an all-volunteer organization of artists friends—both old and new. Our outstanding success in the face of the challenges of the past few years is because of friends who volunteered time, who found creative solutions, and who persisted in the hard work it took to develop new and different ways of meeting our members’ needs. Like the song says, in “good time and bad times…that’s what friends are for.” Now 2023 stretches out ahead of us as a year to celebrate. We look forward with great optimism to the 20th Anniversary Open Studio Tour, the Annual Art Contest, the ever-expanding Members’ Invitational, and to the return of in-person gatherings, artist talks, studio visits, workshops, and exhibition receptions. Keep smiling, keep shining, keep creating, keep inspiring each other, and most of all keep laughing together. I cannot thank you enough for your support and friendship throughout the years.
