Congratulations to the Awardees of SCA’s Youth Grant

The Youth Grant Award is funded by SCA’s Memorial Education Fund, established in 2014 with funds given in memory of Poole Barker, a young exhibiting member of SCA. Since then, the fund has grown and been sustained by generous gifts from many individuals, providing grants for motivated young artists between the ages of 16 and 21 who live or study in Bristol County, Massachusetts, or Newport County, Rhode Island. These grants allow students to explore their artistic potential beyond the everyday classroom setting, and create opportunities for discovery, self-expression, and appreciation of the arts.

The 2025 Awardee is Presented to:
Cassie Taber

Cassie Taber is an emerging artist from Tiverton, RI, who is a sophomore at Endicott College. Cassie’s self-designed project, Bridging Dimensions, will utilize her skills as a printmaker and painter to develop intricate surface designs on her ceramic forms.

Awards of Merit winners are:

Isabella Carinci is from Quincy, MA and a junior at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Her project, Suburban Sketches: An Exploration of Connection, featured her illustrative drawing skills in graphite.

Alexandra Cousineau is from Acushnet, MA and she works as an instructor at Dream Out Loud in New Bedford. In her project, Sharing a Visage of the World, she plans to use mixed media to create portraits. Lexie states; “ I would like to create an opportunity to share the stories of those who are disregarded by the world, or show the legacy of those who may not be able to share it before they go.”

SCA’s Memorial Education Fund provides grants for motivated young artists under the age of 21, to explore their artistic potential beyond the everyday classroom setting. The cash award helps defray the costs of a student’s self-designed artistic goal, and dovetails with the overarching mission of SCA, Inc. by creating opportunities for discovery, self-expression, and appreciation of the arts.

South Coast Artists, a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization, educates, represents, and supports artists living and working in the coastal towns of Tiverton and Little Compton, RI, and Westport and Dartmouth, MA. Each summer SCA sponsors studio tours and this year the 22nd annual SCA Open Studio Tour takes place on the weekends of July 19-20 and August 16-17. SCA also provides educational events and grants for emerging artists.
