Upcoming Events this Fall!

Fall is a busy month for us! We have four upcoming events that you will want to add to your calendar.

Thursday, October 16, you are invited to join us for the 22nd Annual Meeting of South Coast Artists at the Macomber House in Westport, MA. The formal notice of the meeting is available here.

Wednesday, November 5, we will be hosting Cody Hartley, Director of the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, for our Second Annual Distinguished Lecture: Georgia O’Keeffe, What her example might teach us about how to live an intentional and creative life. The event will take place at Round the Bend Farm, 92 Allens Neck Road, South Dartmouth, MA 02748.

Sunday November 23 SCA has the opportunity to provide artist demonstrations to the public during the Hatch Street Open Studios. We are looking for members to volunteer for this event!

December 4 – 21 is our popular Holiday Exhibtion at the Dartmouth Cultural Center. The registration period runs from October 20 – November 3, so be sure to submit your entry for this wonderful event!

Annual Meeting

October Annual Meeting
Thursday, October 16th

Potluck begins at 6:00 p.m.
Presentation at 7:00 p.m.

The evening will begin at 6:00 p.m.with our famous potluck dinner, with time to renew friendships and make new ones. The dinner and socializing portion will take place from 6:00-7:00 p.m., with the program beginning as usual at 7:00 pm. A special highlight of the Annual Meeting will be an art talk by SCA member Galen Snow.

Long time SCA member, Galen Snow, began her journey with nature as her compass in the Pacific Northwest. She moved to Little Compton in 1983 and entered the Certificate Program at RISD, graduating with a Painting and Drawing Certificate. An unexpected life incident changed her outlook and her art focus to Painting with Paper.

Make sure to join us for a behind the scenes look into Galen’s unique creative process and how she arrived at her local nature-inspired one of a kind creations. "When I gratefully let in the beauty of each day – watching the hawks soar, noticing the ripples of light on a wave or a flowers’ grace nodding in the wind, I find peace there, in the moment, and the inner energy that keeps moving me forward in my craft.” GS.

We understand that cases of the flu are occurring in our area- if you are feeling sick, or that you might be sick, please stay home. We are also asking that you be considerate of the type of food brought for the pot-luck, and ask that you avoid bringing dip types of food with you. Please remember to take home your leftovers at the end of the evening as well!

ABOUT OUR SPEAKER:

Cody Hartley has served as Director of the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum since May 2019.

Prior to his role as Director, he was the Museum’s Director of Curatorial Affairs, its Senior Director of Collections and Interpretation, and Acting Director. Hartley has been a respected and innovative senior member of staff at the O’Keeffe since 2013, leading a division of departments that included curatorial, conservation, and education teams, as well as the library, archives, research center, and historic properties.

In that time, Hartley supported numerous exhibitions, including a blockbuster international retrospective Georgia O’Keeffe at the Tate Modern. He was the key architect behind an effort to create a significant acquisition endowment which has enabled the museum to purchase numerous masterpieces for its collection. Hartley has also transformed the O’Keeffe’s approach to digital literacy, expanding the team dedicated to innovative uses of technology.
