21st Annual Open Studio Tour Starts This Weekend!

Whether you plan your route in advance, or simply drive along the picturesque country roads letting the blue signs guide your journey, this weekend’s Open Studio Tour is sure to be a delight. Here are a few tips to help you make the most of it!

Every studio and gallery is a unique experience. Consider planning a route that takes full advantage of your particular interests. To sketch out your adventure, please consider the SCA mobile app – South Coast Artists. It’s easily downloaded on your smartphone or tablet. It’s a free app that’s available through the Apple store or on Google Play. This digital feature allows you to easily navigate from place to place, from artist to artist and from town to town. Or, if you prefer, you can view or brochure online to find out about all the participating artists and their locations, or pick up a brochure from one of our many Sponsor locations. You can also access all of this information, on our website. Whatever method you choose, you are in for a treat!

Enrichment for Young Artists

SCA Art Cards and Family guides have influenced thousands of kids by allowing them to see and think about art in new ways. This year, we have developed a new guide to add enrichment on the Tour experience. The SCA family guide enrich the Open Studio Tours for young children and make the entire free tour more inclusive to families with young children.

You can pick up a guide with one of our artists or at participating Cardi’s locations.

What is the Family Guide?

This pamphlet has four sections on the inside (one for each of the Tour towns) with images corresponding to aspects of the unique features of each town. We encourage kids to color in each square inspired by studios they visit. They could choose to represent four different painting or art styles in each section. They could add to each scene by what they experience during the tours. The possibilities are endless!

What do we do once the guide is colored in?

We encourage a parent or guardian to take an image of the completed artwork and email it to us at info@southcoastartists.org. Submissions received by September 1st will be entered in a drawing to receive free a basket of art supplies!

Upcoming Community Events

Once again, we are excited to partner with the Westport Cultural Council to help present two films during their summer film series. The first film of the season begins on Wednesday, July 17th with Troublesome Creek, followed by two other films, In the Whale and The Power of Stone, detailed below.

We hope you can join us at the picturesque Weatherlow Farms in Westport to enjoy these powerful films. The events are free, but tickets are required to reserve your seats.

South Coast Artists, a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization, educates, represents, and supports artists living and working in the coastal towns of Dartmouth and Westport, MA, and Tiverton and Little Compton, RI. Each summer SCA sponsors studio Tours and this year the 21st annual SCA Open Studio Tour takes place on the weekends of July 20-21 and August 17-18. SCA also delivers each year educational events and grants for emerging artists.
